Learning Together Welcomes New Members to Board of Directors

Raleigh, NC—Learning Together proudly announces the addition of two new members to the organization’s Board of Directors: Melissa Simpson and Cody Forness.

“We are delighted to welcome Melissa and Cody to our team,” said Nell Barnes, Executive Director at Learning Together. “They are committed, passionate, and dedicated to ensuring that young children of all abilities receive the right to a bright future.”

Cody Forness, CPA and Financial Reporting Manager at General Parts, Inc./CARQUEST, first became aware of Learning Together’s mission through his coworker, Paul Neal, CARQUEST Senior Financial Director and Learning Together Board President. Forness has been a volunteer on the Learning Together Finance Committee since January 2013.

“After hearing the mission of Learning Together, I knew that I had found the perfect place for me to give back to this great community. I could not help but get excited about the prospect of having a positive impact on our most valuable asset – our children. Providing our kids with the tools necessary to reach their maximum potential, to me, is the greatest duty we as adults have and that is precisely what Learning Together does,” explains Forness.

Melissa Simpson, Assistant Director of Recruitment for First Year College at North Carolina State University, began her involvement with Learning Together in Fall 2011, when she enrolled her child in the Developmental Day program.

“The helpless feeling that came with learning that my son had developmental delays was replaced with hope for his future in knowing that the early intervention program and Learning Together was helping him to reach his developmental milestones. When asked to serve on the Board of Directors of Learning Together, I was extremely honored. I also felt some apprehension, particularly because I have no prior experience with serving in such capacity. However, the opportunity to give back to an organization that has given so much to my family and the community superseded that apprehension,” shares Simpson.
