Learning Together Welcomes New Members & Officers to Board of Directors

Raleigh, NC—Learning Together proudly announces the addition of two new members to the organization's Board of Directors: Greg Bertles and Ben Freeman.

"We are delighted to have them be a part of our team," said Nell Barnes, Executive Director at Learning Together. "They are committed, passionate and dedicated to ensuring that young children of all abilities receive the right to a bright future."

Greg Bertles, Federal Sales Manager at Cisco Systems, has spent the last four years volunteering at Learning Together with his coworkers and decided he wanted to do more for the young children that Learning Together serves.

"I always knew that volunteering here was making a difference in the young children's lives, but what I did not realize is how they would impact mine. As a father of two young children, you want to give your children the world and teach them everything there is to know. I have realized that I want that for every child, not just my own, and that is what Learning Together does, gives each child the tools they need to reach their full potential," describes Bertles.

Ben Freeman, Service Sales Manager at Cisco Systems, shares a similar experience with Greg. Ben started volunteering with Learning Together several years ago and continuously finds ways to do more for the organization. Each holiday season Ben coordinates a visit to the Center from his very close friend, Santa Claus for the children to enjoy. He most recently has engaged his entire family into giving back as his middle son hikes the 2,180 miles long Appalachian Trail in order to raise funds and awareness for young children of all abilities.

"Supporting Learning Together has become a family priority for us. Hiking for the Stars is just one of the ways that we can contribute to an amazing organization that is changing lives for young children at such an early age. The work being done at Learning Together is vital to the success of these young children's lives and it is an honor to be part of that," states Freeman.

In addition to Bertles and Freeman joining the board for a three-year term, the Board of Directors voted in a new slate of officers for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. Leading the Board is Paul Neal, Vice President of Strategic Planning & Development at CARQUEST, as Board President. Serving with him on the Executive Committee is Frances Bobbie, Vice President of the Allman Bobbie Group at Robert W. Baird, Co., as Vice President. Brian Burns, Account Manager at Alfred Williams, and Diane Schabinger, Audit Manager at Grant Thornton, complete the new slate as Treasurer and Secretary, respectively.

Neal speaks to leading the organization, "It is an honor to serve as Board President of an organization who is making a direct impact in the local community. I look forward to leading the organization as we strategically plan how to grow our vision, raise awareness, and expand services during a difficult economic time, all while providing the highest quality of services."
